Daedalus' errands

Ahoy everyone! Again, I'm truly sorry for the delayed post. My life has been crazy busy, but I hope to get back into Pirate101 soon.

Anyway, when we last left off, I was told I had to find a hero named Thessseusss if I wanted to find Argos, and my next piece of the treasure map. Argos has the map piece, but he is underground, hunting the Minotaur with Thessseusss in Daedalus' giant maze, the Labyrinth. He is willing to surrender a key to you, but for a price; you need to go get him some things. The series of quests is a little bit tougher than just going to the dry cleaning and picking up his laundry: he wants you to recover his plans for one of his new inventions from some pesky centaurs, some iron ore off the ground, and a hammer from a boss, Cyclopean Anax. The dungeon with the cyclops is not very difficult, with only 2 fights, so I was able to solo it with some difficulty. The enemies there are mostly, if not all, buccaneer, so plan accordingly. After that, you acquire the key to the Labyrinth, but the entrance is under the Hall of Minos, on Knossos. Unfortunately, the place is infested with vultures, and your very first quest as soon as you land on the island is to defeat some of them. After that, its on to a variety of tough dungeons. Yay.

Pirate101 Sneak Peeks!

Ahoy there!

Pirate101 released yet another sneak peak today! Third one this month! I sense a new update coming soon... If you haven't seen the sneak peeks yet,  we have all three of them for you to see.

Sneak Peek #1

Bonnie Anne: “The Ancient Ones aren’t the only ones who’ve gone. He’s gone . . . gone completely barmy, Captain!”
Released on 11/1/2013

Sneak Peek #2

Released on 11/5/2013

Annnd...

Sneak Peak #3!

"Hola, tiny Captain! I seek passage with you!" - Carcarius Grimtooth
Released on 11/8/2013

These images seem to be very different from each other, making it hard for me to make a good guess of what this next update will bring.  #1 is a crazy old man, #2 is a very fancy place, and #3 is some sort of shark in what appears to be the Witchdoctor school. Perhaps they're separate updates? I can't wait to see what it is, it should be interesting!

Leave a comment below with your best guess(es) on what you think this next major update will be!

Quick update from Perilous Oliver Paisley

Ahoy there! I know it's been a really long time since I've come up with a post, and I am truly sorry about it. Life has been incredibly busy with school and extracurricular activities, so, unfortunately, my posts will have to be more spaced out. My plan is to have a post ready every weekend, my free days. Again, I'm sorry for the lack of blog posts, but now that I have a routine and school has begun to settle down, I hope I can be more active on the blog and Pirate101.

Let's Get To Know Brave Alex Richmond

Ahoy there!

I know most of you know pretty much know nothing about my pirate, and I think that should change. So how about we get to know him a bit?

Brave Alex Richmond is a level 48 Swashbuckler currently questing in Mooshu. He wears a really ugly outfit and refuses to stitch because he can't make up his mind on what to stitch to.

I guess the Pennyfarthing mount looks pretty cool. I'm glad we agree on that because no matter how many times I tell him to buy a new mount he always says no..he seems to have more fun on his bike than he should though..especially ever since we removed his training wheels!

Oh, do you see that cool ship in the background? It's his! Well maybe it's not so cool..he himself actually has more health than his ship! He doesn't like to listen to me, but when it comes to buying a new ship, he's already sailing to the nearest ship vendor. Unfortunately he  doesn't have that much gold at the moment, which is pretty sad since we've been questing all day, oh well, just need about 10,000 more! We've been looking for ship vendors and as we were doing that we stumbled upon a really nice ship. He's been staring at it ever since!

He also managed to take a look inside!..until he got kicked out by the owner. He got pretty mad and things didn't go too well for the owner..and yeah, I've been taking him to anger management classes, okay?

Aww, Monkey King ruined the picture! Well speaking of Monkey King, that's his newest companion! He really loves this companion, he tested him out in one battle and then immediately put him as his first mate. He doesn't like his name though..the monkey gets to be the king and he's just a captain..so he changed his name to "Funky Monkey", don't tell him, but in my opinion, I liked Monkey King better.

Another  one of  Alex's favorite companions is Sarah Steele. Especially since we finally got to complete her promotion quest.

Okay, how about we talk about his stats? He's really proud of them and he wanted to share them with you. They're not the best, but we're working on it!

Well most of it is awesome..except for one little thing. Can you guess? Oh, too lazy to guess? Okay, I'll just tell you. His horrible nautical level!! His level is 47, but his nautical level is 26..that's not good. As a matter of fact we died at least 10 times today trying to defeat Amber Horde Ships, glad we got that over with. By the way, if you're reading this, do you know of any nautical XP parties or events? Comment below! He's got his nautical XP boost elixirs waiting to be redeemed!

Four Hours Worth Of Nautical XP Boost Elixirs!

Oh and another thing he's proud of and wanted to share; his house! Yes, a house! Sadly not one of the class houses (he never has gold), but it's a house! The Volcano Island!

He was lucky enough to get the BoochBeard bundle before it had to leave back when P101 first launched, so that's cool! Yes, he's had this house since October 2012. He's had it for about a year, and guess what? He hasn't even decorated it at all! Not even one housing item! I don't know what he's doing, but maybe he has some secret house decorating skills he'll unleash soon.

Well that's all he's willing to tell about himself! Leave a comment if you have any questions for him. He'd be happy to answer them ASAP!

Finding Argos

The mighty eagles have finally conquered the city of Troy, but our side still endured heavy losses. Sadly, Eagiles has fallen, downed by the Ophidians. We won the egg, which turned out not to be what we expected. I also finally recovered the sacred water that the Oracle requested, and recruited another companion in the process. The Oracle, now with her sight restored, tells me that she still can't locate Argos. She is, however, able to direct me to someone who might know where he is. Before I can talk to them, I need to sacrifice my memories of my first 5 years after I was born. They inform me that I need to find Thessseusss. Before I can do that, I need to travel into the giant underground maze, created by Daedalus. More dark areas, most likely filled with monsters. Oh joy.

Entertaining an eagle and taking Troy!

After gathering the food ingredients for the feast that Eagilles requested before he goes to combat, it was my job to go and gather the grape juice to drink, and to find a source of entertainment for during the meal. Sadly, the greatest writer of odes in Aquila, Pandion, has been captured by the vultures and is being held for ransom. Once I rescued Pandion, he informed me that I needed someone to sing the ode. Unfortunately, my crew isn't exactly American Idol-class singers, so I need to try to convince Orpheus to sing during the feast. Orpheus is unavailable, about to go on the ship the Argo. Even though he can't perform, he tells me there is something called the Lyre of Apollo, which will give anyone the ability to sing. Not surprisingly, getting the lyre requires me to go into a cave, beat up some ettins, and steal it from Khagan, who guards it. Now it's time for feasting!

Once Eagilles has eaten, drank, and listened to the beautiful singing of Bonnie Anne, Ratbeard, and El Toro, he is impressed, and agrees to go into battle and help siege the city of Troy. Now all we need to do is find a way through the thick, high walls of Troy. To get in, the Aquilan engineers decide to build a giant wooden mouse with a compartment full of soldiers, much to the displeasure of El Toro, who would much rather have the engineers build a giant statue of his love, Caballine. Now it's time to sneak into Troy and finally win the war.

Time to feast!

To find the next piece of the map to El Dorado, you are sent to Aquila to find the Oracle. She is supposed to help you locate the piece with her prophecies. Unfortunately, getting the scrap of the map is never that easy.

In ancient mythology, oracles were said to make predictions of the future that were inspired by the gods. Most of the oracles worshipped Apollo, the god of truth, prophecy, music, and other things. Lots of the oracles gave predictions every few weeks or months, or sometimes randomly. Because of the infrequent prophecies, most of the public went to seers, who interpreted the future by looking at birds, animal entrails, etc, for their daily prophecy. The disadvantage with seers was they could only answer yes-or-no questions, while oracles were more general. The oracle at Delphi, who was the most prestigious figure in ancient Greek times, made predictions from 1,400 B.C. to 393 A.D.

In Pirate101, before the Oracle can make any prophecies, I have to recover her sacred water that was stolen by the serpents in the city of Troy. Unfortunately, the eagles of Aquila are at war with Troy, and before I can get the water, I need to help them take the city. Sadly, one of the eagles' best warriors, Eagilles, isn't helping with the war effort. To convince him to fight in the war, I have to throw him a feast. This quest line required defeating enemies on land (during which I got my highest AOE damage amount, 1,053 damage), and enemies at sea. I look forward playing more and making more blog posts about my adventures in Aquila. Stay tuned for more!

Darkness and peril, two of my favorite things.

Pirate101 and Site Interview- Kelsey FireHeart

Ahoy me mateys!
This be Chris, here with an interestin' interview, with one of my good friends and one of the coolest people in the community, Kelsey Fireheart!
Kelsey is the owner of  an official Wizard101 US and UK fansite, StarsoftheSpiral.com, which also is home to Pirate101 Skyways, an official Pirate101 fansite.
(N.B. The questions I asked are in LIME, and Kelsey's responses are in AQUA)

1- When did you start playing Kingsisle games, and how did you discover the community?
I started in end of April '10 I think. I don't even recall exactly how I discovered the game. As for the community, all I remember is hearing some people say there were Wizard101 people on Facebook. Didn't exactly like the environment there, then based on others recommendations, I tried out Twitter. So love it! I learned so much from everyone and it actually made me want to play the game more because of the friends I've made.

2- Could you tell us a bit about your pirates? If you had to choose a favorite, which would you pick, and why?
Oooh that's a hard question. I like Swashbucklers and Witchdoctors. I love Swashies because of its cool moves. Witchdoctors are uber kewl. They have awesome animations and they're just a fun class to play with! I have five Pirates, 3 on one account and 2 on the other because I love dual boxing.
My first character I ever made was Fearless Kristen Eastwick, a Swashbuckler. And today, I have all five classes. They're all girls. But I admit the witchdoctor has the coolest clothes. Although I outfitted the Swashbuckler with the cool glasses which helped! If I had the time, I would make more male characters. But alas, my time slots are filled with both games lol.

3- What are some of the features in Pirate101 that keep you interested in the game, and which do you think could be introduced in the future?

Oh, the storyline no question. I love questing and reading the story as I progress through the game. I would love a bank actually. I wanted one for Wizard101 to store our gold for future use. But hey, Pirate101 has banks that we don't use. Why not make them useful? We can store our gold there. Better than buying treasure and letting it sit in our house. It's cooler too lol. But what could be introduced? Fishing! I am hoping for fishing as well as ship pvp and stitching. And of course, ranked pvp.

4- When you created Stars of the Spiral, are there any particular goals you had in mind for the site?
Well, I was tired of searching all over just for a specific piece of information. I wanted everything at the tips of my fingers. So I decided a site full of guides would be helpful. So tada! Stars of the Spiral was born!

5- When you saw that P101 Skyways had been accepted to the official fansite listing, what was your reaction? I'm sure you'd remember that day. Then, 3 months later you also became an official Wizard101 fansite. How have you enjoyed working with and being supported by the community managers thus far?
I was bursting with excitement. I could not believe it. It was one of my most proudest moments. Then when I got accepted to Wizard101, I just knew that all of my hard work paid off. Honestly the community managers are just superbly amazing. They're the most kindest and friendliest people you'll ever know. If I needed help or something, they would be quick to help me if they could. I am quite proud to be working with them.

6- Anything special you'd like to share with the readers?
Just don't forget to be kind, lend a hand and have fun!

7- Last but not least...Llamas or alpacas?
camels! :O
Why? :P
Shrugs, I like out of the box stuff
or sheep!
WOOLY MAMMOTHS :O!

Thank you for the amazing interview, Kelsey!
It was fun to finally interview you after all this time.

Happy Sailing, young pirates!
~Chris.

Pirate101 and Blog Interview- Autumn DreamWalker

Ahoy, mateys!
Today, we have an interview for ye conducted by Alex, with Autumn DreamWalker.
Autumn is the owner of Secrets of the Spiral, one of the official Pirate101 fan-sites.
Autumn is well-known for her kind and friendly personality in the community.
(N.B. The questions are in LIME and Autumn's responses are in AQUA)

1- Hey Autumn! Let's get to know you a bit first. Could you tell us a bit about your pirate(s)?
I actually have all five classes of pirates.  And guess what....All of them are named Autumn Walker! Original, right? :P  My witchdoctor is level 65. This is the one you will most likely see me using at events. I also have a level 28ish privateer, level 8 swashbuckler (which I am leveling with my daughter), and both my musketeer and buccaneer are level 5. I really love all the classes, but Witchdoctor is definitely my favorite!

2- What inspired you to starting blogging in the first place, and have any other bloggers inspired you to keep it up over the years?
Actually, I didn't know about the Wizard101 blogging or Twitter communities at first.  Edward Lifegem told me about his blog and I started reading it. He's the one that really got me interested in blogging.  We would talk about his blog a lot and I realized I was thinking up ideas about things that would make cool posts.  Then after I joined twitter, I met even more bloggers.  By that time, I thought blogging seemed like it would be a really fun way to be more involved with the community.  And I was right!  As far as what has inspired me to keep blogging.....Well mostly it's because it's a lot of fun.  I have had some times when I got burned out and have taken a break, but that hasn't happened since I started blogging about Pirate101.  My friends' encouragement got me through those rough times.  And I love blogging about Pirate101 so much that I think the "burn-out" phases are in the past! I will be sticking around for a long time! :)

3- We're all well aware that Secrets of the Spiral is the most recent official fansite. What was your first reaction when you discovered that your site has made it to the official Pirate101 fansites list?
Well, my first reaction was to not believe the person who told me, followed by shock, which involved me starting at the computer screen for a few minutes without even moving or typing. Then the hyperventillating started. lol I think the only thought that went through my head was OMG OMG OMG over and over. After that, I was happy/excited.  The support I got from the community when I was accepted was the best part!  However, even now it still doesn't seem real.

4- Are you thinking about applying for a Wizard101 official fansite too?
To be honest, probably not.  There are a few reasons for this, but the biggest is that I don't have much time to blog about both games anymore, so Wizard101 has kind of taken a backseat to Pirate101.

5- What advice do you have for the bloggers in our community who wish to be official?
Well my first advice is to blog because you love blogging, not just so you can become official.  There are many aspects of the game to talk about, so choose something you really enjoy and blog about that.  Try to be unique and let your personality come through in your posts. And if you are really serious about becoming official, make sure you follow all the guidelines before you submit your blog.  Have fun and good luck! :)

6- Anything special you'd like to share with the readers?
Hmm.....something special.  Well, let's see.....Oh, I know! There's the time when I was 4 and my older brother made me eat a worm! Wait, that isn't really special. That's just gross.   Seriously though, I would like to say thanks to my readers, your readers, the community and everyone who has supported me! You guys are all awesome!  And watch Secrets of the Spiral for a huge, secret announcement in September!

7- And the most important question: Llamas or Alpacas?
Well have you heard about the new hybrid, Llampacas?  Or was it Alpamas? Um.....I'll have to get back to you on that!

Thank you Autumn, for this great interview, and thank you for all you do in the community.

We'd love the hear what you guys think about Autumn's responses, and about her in general- Feel free to leave a comment!

If you enjoyed Autumn, and want to get to know her better, you can follow her via @ADreamWalker on Twitter.

Kingsisle Makes a Wish Come True

Minutes before starting to compose the first post on the Kingsisle Blog, Kingsisle's V.P. of Marketing, Fred Howard, received a call from the Make-A-Wish foundation, a non-profit organisation that aided children with life-threatening medical conditions in living their lives to the fullest. He was informed that a young cancer patient, Ryan Tucker, had a dream. That dream was to visit the Kingsisle studio, as he was a huge fan of Pirate101.

Today, we were informed by Kvue.com that young Ryan's wish had come true, as he got to visit Kingsisle Entertainment in a limousine, and had gotten the opportunity of a lifetime- The chance to be a part of his favorite game.

This was the video posted by Kvue.com:

Ryan Tucker will be sailing to the Spiral on Wednesday the 17th, July, as Ryan the Relentless, Pirate101's first ever mojo vendor.

Be sure to stop by and purchase some of Ryan's delicious yum-n-ade!

Pirate101 Interview- Anthony DeathBane

Ahoy pirates, it's Chris!
Today, we have a special surprise for you all- An interview with Anthony Deathbane!
If you didn't know, Anthony is known as Kaito on several sites, including on Legends of the Spiral and Stormgate Pirates, which he also manages.
Without further, uh..talking, here we go!
(N.B. The questions are in LIME and Anthony's responses are in AQUA)

1- When you first heard about the release of Pirate101, what were your thoughts as opposed to now, after actually being able to play through content?
Honestly, I was just really excited about everything. I used to have a blog where I would just blog about what I thought about Pirate101 (mostly just beta release guesses). I used to always go on the Pirate101 website and just read about all of the information they had to offer and I was always refreshing Captain Avery's twitter to see if there would be any "new news". I had a little obsession with Monquistans, even changed my twitter name to "Monquistan Fan". Once I got into beta, the game truly surprised me. I had big expectations for it since it was made by the best gaming company I have ever known, but it blew me away!

Promoting Ratbeard!

Sorry for the late blog post guys, I've been busy all this week. I have had time to play in-game, enough to promote Ratbeard.

Ratbeard's promotion begins with the ghost of one of his crew appearing and telling Ratbeard he needs to help Ebenezer Scrooge change his cold, greedy ways. For those of you who don't know, Ebenezer Scrooge was the main character of Charles Dickens' novel, A Christmas Carol. In the book, he was a cold-hearted man who despised Christmas and everything that makes people happy. To change his ways he was visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. In Pirate101, though, it isn't that simple.

Ebenezer was planning to shut down the orphanage where he grew up, Old Boz. Ebenezer's father, Old Silas, left him there after he lost all his money. Scrooge goes on to say that his father was nothing but a failure, and a certain Mr. Barks was more of a father to him. Mr. Barks taught Scrooge how to be successful and make money. The promotion quest involves visiting Marleybone, Mooshu, and Skull Island, learning about Ebenezer's past, and trying to convince him to change his ways. Eventually, you learn about a certain item that Scrooge's dad was supposed to give to him, but never did. After seeing that, he finally is convinced he needs to change his cold-hearted, greedy heart. Ebenezer promises that he will not shut down Old Boz, instead deciding to renovate and improve the orphanage. Then it's off to a tavern cellar to celebrate.
The GHOST is telling the LIVING to haunt Scrooge.

Cute!

Awwww... Ebenezer, I think your heart grew three sizes this day.

Aquila first thoughts

Aquila takes place back in the Golden Age of Greco-Roman times. It's focused on the area's mythology, the gods and monsters of the ancient times. After you complete the Trafalgar Vortex in Marleybone and free Catbeard, you're sent on your way to the beautiful skyway of Aquila. There you'll encounter Manticores, Vultures, and a whole ton of other creatures to spar against on your quest to recover another piece of Marco Pollo's map.

I think Aquila is a great world. I've been waiting for a Greco-Roman themed world since I started playing Wizard101. Greek mythology is a very neat thing to learn about and study, and it puts a smile on my face every time I hear a reference to a specific myth or legend from mythology in Aquila.
Aquila is also a very challenging world. Right off the bat you are sent to defeat and collect from Harpies. The battle is very tough, mostly because they have the third-tier vengence strike, which is hard to deal with. My firstmate, Ratbeard, has the third-tier first strike, so every time he attacked the Harpies, he would get to attack them first for their vengence strike. On the plus side, Ratbeard usually would get three or four hits on them in one round. On the downside, they would get about the same amount of attacks in on Ratbeard, so he'd usually die in battle because of the damage the Harpies can do.
I'm only in the beginning of Aquila because I haven't had a lot of play time, but I'm looking forward to questing and learning more about the myths and monsters of Aquila.

That Swashbuckler Celebrates Their First Birthday!

Today That Swashbuckler has been in the Pirate101 Community for 1 whole year.

We'd like to thank all our mateys for all the feedback and support you've given us in the past year. Without all of you, That Swashbuckler probably wouldn't be here today. So to thank you all, I've put together quite a few contests for you this month. They aren't quite ready yet. And I apologize for that, but as you wait for the real contests, feel free to enter our Birthday Raffle below. Some prizes are Wizard101-related, but I know that lots of you also play Wizard101, so I figured I'd toss those into the Birthday Raffle too.
Good luck, and keep checking back for more contests!

Marleybone comes to a close

Now that I've taken down Beachhead and saved the Isle of Fetch, I've become better known in the Marleybone circles. I was asked by the army to help fix their war machines, which supposedly can make a difference in the outcome of the war. Unfortunately, these golems can't even stand, much less strike fear into the hearts of Armada forces. I had to journey on both land and sky to gather all the parts to fix them. When I got all the parts and tried to fix them, though, I encountered a nasty surprise. The machines were attacking ME! After defeating the golems, I was tasked with rescuing the son of the fox who programmed the war machines. I reported back to the war room, and received my last combat quest in Marleybone. I needed to save a military official, and stop on of the high-ranking Armada members, Rooke. After a long and challenging dungeon (thanks to Dead-Eye Justin for helping me out) I was granted commision from the Marleybone military, and so was able to rescue Catbeard! Now it's onto Aquila.

I thought Marleybone was a great world. It was very beautiful, and I loved how it was always nighttime. I also loved the story of Marleybone and how challenging it was. You could usually get through the street mobs without much concern, but with the dungeons you usually want a friend to come. I felt the world was relatively short. There is only one skyway, at least that we know of, and there were only a handful of areas in the skyway. Overall, however, I thought Marleybone was a great world. Hopefully Aquilla is just as good, if not better.

Not exactly combat-ready.

Where is Albion?

Private eye Paisley and the case of the rebel kitties

The Kurghas, Marleybone's elite fighting force of tigers, is rebelling. I was sent to investigate the rebellion by the Marleybone navy. The Kurgha rebellion started after Marleybone started fabricating newer and better food for the felines. The new food was suupposed to be better for the Kurghas than their old food, but for some reason they didn't like it. I was charged with the duty of diplomacy to the Kurghas by the Marleybone Navy. After some battles, I encountered a Kurgha that apparently knew my parents, Jabdal Chand. Thankfully, I was able to fix the problem, and get the cats back on our side. Now it's off to the Marleybone Sewers for my next assignment. Why I can't have a desk job, I'm not sure.
Is this the place we saw as concept art before Marleybone and Aquila were confirmed?

How did he know my parents? And where is Rajah?
